Saving Lives – Motorcycle Ambulance

2WAAM-Motorcycle_paramedic_London_Ambulance_ServiceThe world we live in is certainly different then 200 years ago. Modern roads, modern vehicles, modern medicine all make our lives far easier than our ancestors. There are people around the world who do not have these advantages.

What does this have to do with motorcycles? Motorcycles are once again enabling people to improve their lives and medical care by getting to places and carrying cargo that larger vehicles and horses simply can’t. The strength, the speed, and the all terrain capability of a motorcycle bring life saving techniques to the most remote parts of the world.

“Dhaudai (Chhattisgarh), Aug 09 (ANI): A village deep in the jungle of Chhattisgarh, where four-wheelers cannot reach and the nearest hospital is miles away, help arrived in the form of ‘motorcycle ambulance’ just in time, which helped a woman deliver a baby. Though the concept of the motorcycle ambulance isn’t new, it is very effective in saving lives in remote regions, where people die because they could not make it to the hospital on time. NGO Sati’s motorcycle ambulance initiative is jointly supported by the Chhattisgarh Health Department and UNICEF.” (India)

Even more industrialized nations have begun to use motorcycle ambulances to reach people faster. Australia, Europe, and more have rapid deployment rescue motorcycles.

There are definitely areas right here in the US where nimble first responder motorcycles would make perfect sense. Just yesterday mired in D.C. traffic I witnessed an ambulance that could not move, lights, sirens, and air horns weren’t enough when there simply isn’t anywhere to go. A motorcycle could have split the traffic, maneuvered around the jam, and gotten to where help was needed much faster. This could be the difference between life and death.
