We have been giving the Kawasaki H2 and H2 R a lot of thought lately. The one thing that keeps coming up is why? As a design to push the envelope of performance it works, as a street bike not so much. Plaything for the wealthy, again that works. A motorcycle for daily use or even weekend blasts up the coast or mountains – less useful. WSBK homologation special for absolute domination between the painted white lines of a world class race track – definitely works.
Expanding on that last thought. Is this the dawning of a new age of factory “specials”? Bikes with no other purpose but to meet minimum guidelines to be raced and with no practical application to real world use? If that is the case it makes you wonder in an era of cost cutting how making a limited run of bikes, that most likely won’t sell out, is cost effective.
